Shop Steward Short Courses (SSSC)

These short courses  are largely based on QCTO draft Trade union Practice qualification. Unions can arrange for such programmes to be run in house or at the College venue.  As opposed to the non funded programmes these are not scheduled and generally will be run for a specific trade union. As such contents can be customised to a particular union or industry environment. No entrance assessment is necessary although RPL processes are offered for credit approval.

Requirements: Be a union member

The shop steward and step up courses can be combined into different programme configurations for unions wishing to run step-up programmes with different focus.

Modules are credit bearing and some programme elements articulate into the certificate of Trade Union practice.

Contact time in the shop stewards training and the step up courses is generally 50% of notional study time to ensure better learning and facilitate RPL through formalisation of knowledge.

Course costs: Variable but generally R400 per day of contact time per student

Some of these components are covered in other College programmes that have already been subject to accreditation application but not all. Please confirm accreditation status of the various short courses  during scheduling and content discussions.
